The Problem With Chimney Swifts

Chimney swifts are medium-sized, sooty gray birds with very long, slender wings and very short legs. They build a bracket nest of twigs and saliva that sticks to a vertical surface, which is almost always a human-built structure, typically a chimney.

The chimney swift is currently categorized as a “near threatened” species and is therefore federally protected. Nests can only be removed after the breeding season. Birds generally arrive in the mid-spring and stay around until mid-September when they fly back to their winter homes in South America.

If you find that you have chimney swifts, call us for advice and safe removal of the nest. To prevent chimney swifts from nesting altogether, the installation of a chimney cap is recommended.
